Confirmed: Leon Goretzka To Leave Bayern Munich At The End Of The Season
Leon Goretzka’s future is now clear. Bayern have made a key decision, and the German midfielder already knows what comes next.
It is now official. Leon Goretzka will not remain at Bayern Munich beyond the end of the current season. The news was confirmed by sporting director Christoph Freund, putting an end to speculation surrounding the German international’s future.
Freund made it clear that while Goretzka will stay until the campaign concludes, his time at the club will come to an end in the summer when his contract expires.
No January Exit, But A Clear End Date
Goretzka’s name had been heavily linked with a potential move during the winter transfer window, with Atlético de Madrid among the clubs monitoring his situation. However, Bayern ruled out any mid-season departure.
“Leon feels very comfortable at this club and with this team. He decided to stay,” Freund explained. “He’s playing at an extremely high level, so it’s no surprise there were inquiries.”
Eight Successful Years In Munich
Freund acknowledged that the decision followed open and honest discussions between all parties, fully aware that Goretzka’s deal runs out this summer.
“In the summer, his journey at Bayern will come to an end,” he said. “It will have been eight very successful years here.” Despite the impending exit, the club expects Goretzka to remain fully committed through the final stretch of the season.
Kompany Backs Goretzka Until The End
Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany also addressed the situation, underlining the strong relationship he shares with the midfielder.
“My relationship with Leon has always been good and honest,” Kompany said. “His role in this team has always been important, and I’m looking forward to the moments we still have together.”
Atlético Madrid Watching Closely
With his departure now confirmed, Leon Goretzka is expected to be one of the most attractive midfield options on the market this summer. At Atlético de Madrid, the sporting department led by Mateu Alemany continues to view him as a potential reinforcement.
For now, Goretzka remains focused on finishing the season with Bayern. But officially, his future will soon lie away from Munich.
