Robinho’s Son Causes Problems at Neymar’s Santos
The name carries weight in Brazil, especially when it belongs to Robinho, one of the national team’s key figures over the past 20 years. His career left a mark at several clubs, and now his son, Robinho Jr., is trying to carve out his own path in professional football. However, he has started to draw attention more for off-field situations than for his performances.
The young forward plays for Santos, the same club where Neymar currently features, but he has yet to establish himself. This season, he has logged just 111 minutes — a modest figure for an 18-year-old considered one of the club’s promising talents.
An Incident That Sparked Discomfort at Santos
The latest controversy arose before the U-20 match against Cruzeiro, when Robinho Jr. failed to attend the team’s pre-match dinner. Brazilian media report that the decision was influenced by his father, his mother, and his agent.
The situation frustrated the coaching staff. Vínicius Marques, head coach of Santos U-20, had included him in his plans for the match, and the club had even promoted the game with the young striker as one of its standout figures. The episode created internal tension, particularly because the player has not yet secured a regular starting role.
Contract Talks Under Review
The circumstances have also impacted discussions regarding his contract, which runs until 2027. Some time ago, the player’s representatives requested that the board present a clear sporting project outlining his pathway to the first team.
For now, Robinho Jr.’s future remains uncertain. If a renewal agreement is not reached, his outlook could become more complicated, despite reported interest from Espanyol in recent months. The challenge for the young striker will be to deliver on the pitch and ensure that his surname does not outweigh his performances.
