Footage from Tenerife vs Andorra shows the devastating incident that left the Spanish striker hospitalized and sent shockwaves through Spanish football.
Spanish football is mourning the death of Jesús de Miguel, a striker for CD Tenerife, who passed away on Tuesday, November 3, at the age of 30, following a serious collision with Jesús Owono, the goalkeeper for FC Andorra, during a Spanish second-division match.
De Miguel suffered cardiac arrest following the impact and received emergency medical treatment on the pitch. He was subsequently taken to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, where he remained in intensive care until Tenerife confirmed his death at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.
The news prompted an outpouring of support for the player's family, teammates and Tenerife supporters. As authorities investigate the circumstances of the incident, footage of the play shows how the collision that preceded his death unfolded.
Video: How Jesús de Miguel and Jesús Owono Collided
The incident occurred during stoppage time of the match played on Monday, November 2, at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López. With the score tied 2-2, Tenerife launched a long ball forward, which Jesús de Miguel attempted to chase down.
As the striker advanced toward goal, Jesús Owono rushed several yards outside his penalty area to intercept the ball. The goalkeeper jumped with his knee raised and struck De Miguel in the chest, sending the forward to the ground. The Tenerife player subsequently lost consciousness.
The sequence, captured by the television broadcast, shows the moment of impact and the immediate reaction of players, who urgently called for medical assistance.
Owono Sent Off as the Match Was Abandoned
Following the collision, medical personnel treated De Miguel on the field, performing resuscitation procedures as players and staff watched in concern.
Referee Manuel Ángel Pérez Hernández showed Jesús Owono a straight red card for what he deemed excessive force while challenging for the ball. The goalkeeper also expressed concern for his opponent as medical teams worked to stabilize him.
After consulting the captains and representatives of both teams, the referee decided to abandon the match, which remained tied at 2-2. The players were not emotionally able to continue.

From Hospitalization to a Police Investigation
De Miguel was rushed to the hospital, where his condition was initially described as stable but serious. However, during the early hours of Tuesday morning, Tenerife reported a deterioration in his neurological condition. Hours later, the club confirmed his death.
Spain's National Police opened an investigation under judicial supervision to establish the circumstances of the incident. Santa Cruz de Tenerife's chief prosecutor, José Luis Sánchez-Jáuregui, said he considers criminal proceedings unlikely because the collision occurred during a passage of play.
The investigation does not mean that criminal responsibility has been established against Owono. As authorities continue examining the case, clubs, players and football organizations have expressed their condolences following the death of Jesús de Miguel, whose family has requested respect for its privacy.
