CONCACAF And CONMEBOL Still Working On Copa America In USA
The governing bodies say they remain committed to playing a 2016 tournament in the United States, despite issues remaining.
CONCACAF and CONMEBOL are still working toward conducting the Copa America Centenario in the United States next year, the confederation said in a news release sent out after Thursday meetings.
“Today in Mexico City, CONCACAF had a very productive meeting with CONMEBOL and our broadcast partners, Univision and Televisa, regarding the Copa America Centenario," a statement read. "While all parties recognize that there are still issues that must be resolved, we are all in alignment regarding the next steps to be taken as well as the aggressive timeline towards realizing our common goal of staging the Copa America Centenario in the United States.
"We remain committed to working with all parties to resolve outstanding issues and operational components of the tournament.”
The tournament was announced with the U.S. as the site, but the arrest of CONCACAF and CONMEBOL officials by the United States in late May and reports about a site change prompted meetings and an announcement.
