Former athlete Usain Bolt, world record holder in the 100, 200, and 4x100 meters, has ruptured his right Achilles tendon during a charity match held this Sunday at Stamford Bridge in London.
Bolt announced the incident on his social media, sharing a photo of himself in the locker room with his right leg immobilized and using crutches, along with the message "Ruptured Achilles, but done know we a warrior."
The fastest man in the world, who holds records of 9.58 in the 100 meters and 19.19 in the 200 meters, both set in Berlin, was playing for the UNICEF team against a squad of former English stars and got injured while trying to stop Jermain Defoe's advance.
Bolt, who retired from athletics in 2022 and is an avid football fan (having even trialed with Australia's Central Coast Mariners in 2018), lay on the field, was attended to by medics, and had to be stretchered off. Before, he gifted the audience and Del Piero with this brilliant assist.
