Tragedy in Ecuador: International Marco Angulo Passes Away at 22
The Ecuadorian player from Liga de Quito, Marco Angulo, who suffered a severe car accident 39 days ago, died this morning.
Ecuadorian player Marco Angulo from Liga de Quito, who suffered a severe traffic accident 39 days ago, passed away early this morning, as confirmed by his club and the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF).
The 22-year-old international had been in a reserved condition for more than a month in a hospital in the Ecuadorian capital, until the tragic news of his death was announced today due to the injuries he sustained in the early hours of October 7. He collided at high speed with protective barriers on a highway in Quito.
Angulo was traveling in the vehicle with four other people. With his passing, there are now three fatalities from the accident: Roberto Cabezas Simisterra, a defender for Independiente Juniors, and Víctor Charcopa Nazareno.
Both the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) and his club, Liga de Quito, have posted statements on their social media, expressing their "deepest sorrow" and "profound pain and sadness" over the tragic news:
"We regret to inform the passing of our beloved player Marco Angulo. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. His departure is an irreplaceable loss that will leave an indelible mark on our hearts," lamented the Ecuadorian club.
"We stand in solidarity with his family, teammates, and loved ones, wishing them strength in this difficult time," added the Ecuadorian Football Federation.
