The Most Absurd Football Injury: From a Sneeze!
Nigerian Victor Adeboyejo of Bolton Wanderers injured his back and ribs from a sneeze.
Adeboyejo, 26, missed last Tuesday's EFL Trophy match against Barrow after experiencing "discomfort" in his ribs following a sneeze.
"Victor has had a back problem recently, and a sneeze made it worse, believe it or not," said Ian Evatt, Bolton's manager, to the local paper The Bolton News.
"We’ve already done some tests and will have results soon. It happened during a tackle at Charlton; he was fine then, but then he had a strong sneeze. Victor is a strong guy and even his sneezes are powerful."
"He felt a 'crack' in his ribs and we hope it’s just a cartilage or muscle issue, but we won’t know until he gets a scan," Evatt added.
Bolton Wanderers was last in the Premier League in the 2011-2012 season. They dropped to League Two (English fourth division) in 2020 and are currently in League One (English third division), where they have played in the promotion playoffs the last two seasons.
