Ronaldo's New Challenge
At 48 years old, the Brazilian football legend Ronaldo Nazário has announced that he is running for president of the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF).
What if Ronaldo were to lead Brazilian football again? This is the dream of the former Brazilian forward, who, after being the star of the Selecao and helping them win their last two World Cup titles (1994 and 2002), has announced his candidacy to become the next president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). In an interview with Globo Esporte, Ronaldo stated, "I want to recover the prestige and respect that the Seleçao has always had, something no one else has now."
His program centers on restoring the greatness of a national team that has lost its identity and results, being eliminated in the quarterfinals of the last Copa América and currently in 5th place in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. "People often stop me and ask me to return because the situation of the Seleçao is not the best right now. My legacy as a player is undeniable, but I feel I have a duty to continue in the football industry and help Brazil get out of where we are. We have been stuck for 20 years," the former player said.
To achieve this, the two-time Ballon d'Or winner (1997 and 2002) intends to involve former Brazilian football legends, building a bridge between the glorious past and the present. "Listening to former players will be crucial in my plan, to bring back Brazilian football legends," he added.
However, to move forward, he must convince key figures in Brazilian football, including voters from state federations and clubs. "This announcement is to let the presidents know that I am a candidate. I have incredible projects, and before anyone commits their vote, I would like to have a conversation with each one of them," Ronaldo remarked.
Regarding his situation with Real Valladolid, Ronaldo has started negotiations to sell the club, allowing him to comply with CBF regulations, which prohibit a president from owning a club. "We are negotiating a possible sale soon, and this will not be an obstacle to my candidacy," the former footballer revealed.
