Probe Initiated into Cristiano's Gesture Amid 'Messi, Messi' Chants
The all-time top scorer reacted with obscene gestures towards the crowd after hearing support for his 'rival'.
Cristiano Ronaldo, one of today's top footballers, finds himself embroiled in controversy after the Roshn Saudi League Disciplinary Committee announced it would 'analyze and take necessary measures' against the Al-Nassr forward. This comes after a video went viral showing the Portuguese making obscene gestures against the stands after hearing "Messi, Messi" on several occasions during a match.
The controversy arose after the Al-Shabab vs Al-Nassr match, corresponding to the 21st round of the Saudi league. In the match, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal in the 21st minute, influencing the final score which ended 3-2 in favor of the visitors.
Throughout long stretches of the match, the Al-Shabab fans were heard chanting Lionel Messi's name repeatedly, a gesture that has been repeated in various stadiums throughout the season against Cristiano.
The action led Cristiano Ronaldo, who is normally a calm and composed player, to lose his temper and make a controversial gesture towards the stands, which consisted of the former Manchester United forward first putting his hand to his ear and then using his right hand to make a gesture up and down at waist level.
In response to such a gesture, which quickly went viral on social media, Saudi media have revealed that the Disciplinary Committee will take immediate action against Ronaldo.
"The committee has begun to investigate the 'immoral gesture' made by Cristiano Ronaldo," stated the Asharq Al-Awsat media outlet.
Likewise, it was reported that in the event that a decision is made to sanction the top scorer of the Roshn Saudi League, such punishment will be announced in the coming days.
