Hansi Flick Confident Barcelona Can Register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor
“We are confident, but we have to wait. I am always positive,” Flick said ahead of the team’s debut in the Copa del Rey against Barbastro.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick stated on Friday that he is "confident" attackers Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor will be registered again in LaLiga in the coming hours.
Optimism Amid Uncertainty
The German coach revealed that he had spoken earlier in the day about the situation of both players with the club’s president, Joan Laporta, but refrained from sharing details of the conversation.
“I don’t want to talk too much about this because everyone has their job, and mine is to prepare the team for the next match. Honestly, the situation is not something I like, and the players don’t either, but we are professionals,” Flick commented, emphasizing that both Olmo and Víctor “are optimistic and want to play for this club and fight for it.”
In a press conference shorter than usual, Flick preferred to focus on the match against Barbastro. “I watched last year’s game, and it was tough. They play well. We need to be fully focused from the first second. That will be our goal tomorrow,” he said.
Key Absences and Decisions for Barcelona
For the cup debut, Flick ruled out defender Andreas Christensen, who is in the final stages of recovery from tendinopathy that has sidelined him for months.
“He is doing very well, has improved, but it’s too soon for him to play against Barbastro. We’ll see if he’s ready for the game in Saudi Arabia (Supercopa de España), but we have to wait,” Flick said about the Danish center-back’s progress.
The coach also declined to confirm whether goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny would make his debut in the cup. “What I can say is that Tek [Marc-André ter Stegen] is training very well, but the decision has not been made. We’ll see tomorrow.”
Lastly, Flick dismissed speculation about defender Eric García potentially returning to Girona during the winter transfer window. “I don’t think so, but I don’t know what will happen. He’s a very good player, intelligent and very professional. The problem is that he had the injury. But for now, we are not considering his departure,” Flick concluded.
