Deschamps Defends Mbappé: "He Will Regain his Best Form"
French national team coach Didier Deschamps believes that Kylian Mbappé is going through "a tough situation" but is confident that he will bounce back to his best form. The Real Madrid forward is currently experiencing "a difficult moment," Deschamps admitted in an interview with TF1 broadcast this Sunday.
The coach emphasized that his player's rough patch "does not diminish what he has accomplished" and expressed confidence that Mbappé will regain his effectiveness. "I have no reason to think otherwise," he stated.
Deschamps elaborated on the challenges faced by today's athletes, noting increased sporting demands alongside growing pressure from the media and social networks.
In his opinion, this could lead to what he described as a state of psychological fragility, though he stopped short of calling it "depression."
Mbappé has been absent from Deschamps' last two call-ups for the UEFA Nations League group stage.
When asked about the debate over Mbappé's ideal position, Deschamps responded that, while he is criticized in France for playing him as a center-forward, Mbappé has been deployed in that role "by his last two club coaches."
Deschamps acknowledges that Mbappé "doesn't have the same profile as Olivier Giroud, obviously, but it also depends on the opposing team."
And he concluded by saying that Mbappé "can play in multiple positions; the rest is about partnerships."
