Cycling Accident Forces Czech Midfielder Out of Euro 2024
Michal Sadilek was one of the 26 players chosen to represent the Czech Republic in the European Championship, but an unfortunate fall has left him out of the tournament.
Czech national football team midfielder Michal Sadilek, one of the 26 players called up for the European Championship, was injured during a training session in Schladming, Austria, where the team is currently based. Sadilek suffered a fall while riding a bicycle, the Czech football federation reported on Monday.
Sadilek, who played in Friday's friendly match against Malta and wore the captain's armband, had a special training plan that included a bike ride during which he fell and "injured his leg," the statement said.
Coach Ivan Hasek will announce Sadilek's replacement on Monday, following the friendly match against North Macedonia.
Sadilek, 25, currently plays for FC Twente in the Netherlands. He has 24 caps for the Czech national team and has scored one goal. He is one of seven players in the current squad who played in the last European Championship in 2020.
