Cristiano Ronaldo Loses Manager at Al Nassr
Portuguese coach Luis Castro has parted ways with Al Nassr, according to a statement from the Saudi club.
"Al Nassr announces that coach Luis Castro has left the club. Everyone at Al Nassr wants to thank Luis and his team for their dedicated work over the past 14 months and wishes them the best for the future," the club's statement reads.
Castro's departure comes a day after the Saudi team’s draw in their first AFC Champions League match against Iraqi side Al Shorta (1-1). Following the match, Castro remarked that in his 28-year career, he had never been dismissed before. Additionally, the team has earned five points from the first three league matches, placing them four points behind the top three teams: Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Ettifaq.
Castro, who is 63 years old and from Mondroes, joined Al Nassr in July 2023 with a contract running until 2025. Prior to his tenure with the Saudi club, he managed several Portuguese teams, including Porto, Rio Ave, and Vitoria Guimarães, as well as Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine, Al-Duhail in Qatar, and Botafogo in Brazil.
Italian coach Stefano Pioli is a potential candidate for the role.
