Confirmed: Messi and Argentina's Friendlies Set for March
Lionel Scaloni's Argentina national team is set to face Nigeria and Ivory Coast during their tour of China from March 18 to 26, taking advantage of the FIFA international break.
The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced on Monday in a statement that the current world champions will first play against Nigeria at the Olympics Sports Center stadium in the city of Hangzhou.
The second match, against Ivory Coast, will be held at the Workers' Stadium in Beijing.
Both teams are currently participating in the Africa Cup of Nations, with both having qualified for the quarterfinals of the tournament.
Claudio Tapia's organization will provide the dates for both matches in the coming hours, according to the statement.
The tour by the team that lifted the trophy at the 2022 Qatar World Cup is similar to the one carried out last June, marking the return of the Albiceleste to the continent. They played in Beijing and Jakarta against Australia and Indonesia, respectively.
The significant number of fans that 'La Scaloni's' - especially their captain, Lionel Messi - attracts in the vast Asian country, along with certain sponsorship agreements, leads the world champions to travel to China.
These matches will serve as a prelude to the Copa America that Argentina will play this year in the United States, where they will seek to defend the title won in 2021, the first of the 'Scaloni era,' which continued with the 2022 Finalissima and the aforementioned third World Cup for Argentina.
