Botafogo prepares for new international challenges after winning the Libertadores
Botafogo continues to rack up successes and is preparing to face new international challenges in the coming months. After being crowned Copa Libertadores champions, the Rio de Janeiro-based team is now focused on the Club World Cup and the Recopa Sudamericana, which will take place in 2025. Additionally, the squad led by Artur Jorge will also compete for the Recopa title against Racing, the winner of the Copa Sudamericana, following their 3-1 victory over Cruzeiro in the tournament final on November 23.
The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) has already confirmed the dates for the 2025 Recopa Sudamericana matches. The first leg will be held on February 19 at El Cilindro stadium in Avellaneda, while the return leg will take place on February 26 at the Nilton Santos Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
However, Botafogo is already facing a significant setback for the first match: midfielder Gregore will not be available due to his red card in the Libertadores final against Atlético Mineiro, which requires him to serve an automatic suspension. This sanction could be extended if Conmebol decides to increase the penalty due to the direct red card. As a result, Botafogo could be without him for both Recopa matches.
Before these international commitments, Botafogo has a crucial fixture on Wednesday, December 4, when they face Internacional in the 37th round of the Brazilian Championship. A victory in this match could see the Rio club crowned league champions, adding another trophy to their collection.
Botafogo's season is shaping up to be historic, with a series of major challenges that will test the team's potential to win new titles.
