Atletico Mineiro Parts Ways with Scolari Ahead of Copa Libertadores Debut
Atlético Mineiro has officially announced on Wednesday the dismissal of Luiz Felipe Scolari from his position as coach, just two weeks before the team's debut in the Copa Libertadores.
Through their social media channels, the club stated that the decision to part ways with Scolari was made consensually. They also expressed gratitude to the former Brazil and Portugal national team coach for his service during his time at the club.
Scolari, 75, had joined Atlético Mineiro in the middle of last year. During his tenure, the team recorded 19 wins, ten draws, and twelve losses. However, the team's irregular start to the season in the regional tournament of the state of Minas Gerais led to his departure.
The Belo Horizonte-based club is gearing up to compete in this year's Copa Libertadores, where they are placed in Group G alongside Uruguay's Peñarol, Argentina's Rosario Central, and Venezuela's Caracas.
Atlético Mineiro's first match in the Copa Libertadores is scheduled for April 4th, when they will visit Caracas in the Venezuelan capital.
