Al Ahly Take The Bronze
This is Al Ahly's fourth bronze medal in this tournament
Al Ahly of Egypt clinched third place in the Club World Cup by defeating Japan's Urawa 2-4. The victory came with an own goal by Yoshio Koizumi, breaking the tie that persisted until the 60th minute, and a goal in added time by Tunisian Ali Maaloul.
The Egyptian team reached the podium for the third time in the last four editions, dampening the enthusiasm of their opponent, especially in the first half.
The African champions didn't give up until the end. Despite trailing on the scoreboard, they held their ground until the 60th minute.
Al Ahly, led by Swiss coach Marcel Koller, approached the match with better momentum. Before the half-hour mark, they had a two-goal advantage. In the 19th minute, Yasser Ibrahim opened the scoring, and in the 25th minute, South African Percy Tau made it 0-2. Urawa, far from resigning due to their opponent's superiority, fought back into the game and revived their chances. They narrowed the gap just before halftime with a goal from Guinean Jose Kante. This inspired the team coached by Polish manager Maciej Skorza, who equalized in the 54th minute with a goal from Alexander Scholz.
Urawa didn't manage to turn the result around, and at the hour mark, Al Ahly regained the lead with an own goal by Yoshio Koizumi. They could have extended it, taking advantage of the spaces left by their opponent, who was pushing for an equalizer.
Tunisian Ali Maaloul had the chance to score the fourth, but he missed a penalty in the 75th minute. However, in the 98th minute, with the outcome decided, he found the target, beating Shusaku Nishikawa for the fourth time and sealing his team's victory at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium in Jeddah, securing the third-place finish.
With this result, the Egyptians claimed their fourth bronze medal in this competition.
