Nigeria cruise past Uganda to finish Group C unbeaten
Nigeria capped a flawless group stage with another commanding win, while Uganda bowed out of the tournament with no room left to recover.
Super Eagles set the tone early
From the opening whistle in Fez, Nigeria made their intentions clear. High pressing, quick ball circulation and constant width pinned Uganda deep, forcing them into a defensive posture from the outset.

The pressure paid off in the 28th minute. Paul Onuachu reacted quickest inside the box to turn home a pinpoint delivery from Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, finishing off a slick team move that reflected Nigeria’s control. The goal lifted the Super Eagles to nine points and tightened their grip on the group.
Red card tilts the balance decisively
The contest effectively turned just before the hour mark. Uganda goalkeeper Salim Magoola was sent off after handling the ball outside the area to deny Victor Osimhen a clear scoring chance.
With a numerical advantage, Nigeria showed composure and ruthlessness. Four minutes later, Samuel Chukwueze threaded a perfectly weighted pass into the path of Frank Onyeka Onyedika, who finished with authority to double the lead and put the match beyond doubt.
Onyedika shines in Fez
It was a standout night for Frank Onyeka Onyedika, who delivered his most impactful performance in a Nigeria shirt. In the 67th minute, he struck again, arriving late into the box to complete a rapid transition sparked by Paul Onuachu and once more orchestrated by Chukwueze.
The third goal sealed a dominant display and underlined Nigeria’s efficiency: three matches, three wins, and total control of Group C.
Uganda show pride, but exit confirmed
Despite playing with ten men, Uganda refused to fold completely. Allan Okello picked out Steven Mato, who produced a delicate finish over Francis Uzoho to pull one back late on.
The goal offered brief consolation, but it did little to alter the bigger picture. With just one point collected, Uganda’s AFCON 2025 campaign came to an end at the group stage.
