How and Where to Watch: Cameroon vs. Gabon at AFCON 2025 on beIN SPORTS
Chaos off the pitch, pressure on it. Cameroon begin AFCON 2025 under the spotlight against a disciplined Gabon side.
A Chaotic Build-Up Raises Questions for Cameroon
It’s possible that Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroon Football Federation, looked at Ivory Coast’s unconventional path to glory at AFCON 2023 and decided to push chaos a step further.
All the excitement of AFCON 2025 exclusively on beIN Sports.
In the days leading up to the tournament, Cameroon dismissed head coach Marc Brys over alleged “subterfuge.” Assistant David Pagou was appointed, but confusion followed: two Cameroon squads were announced for AFCON 2025 — one by Brys, who claimed he was still in charge, and an official list submitted by Pagou.
One Squad, Big Names Missing
It was the players from Pagou’s list who arrived in Morocco ahead of Wednesday’s match against Gabon, live on beIN SPORTS. Yet the most talked-about absence was goalkeeper André Onana, whose omission sparked immediate debate.
Pagou addressed the turmoil in Tuesday’s pre-match press conference, admitting the turbulent preparation: “After many discussions, we reached a squad that we will have ready by our game tomorrow.”
Mbeumo Carries Cameroon’s Hopes
Amid the uncertainty, Cameroon still boast a standout performer. Bryan Mbeumo has been a rare bright spot this season, producing consistently for Manchester United after his move from Brentford.
The forward has already scored six Premier League goals, and his form will be crucial if the Indomitable Lions are to overcome their off-field distractions and start AFCON 2025 on the right foot.
Gabon Arrive as Dangerous Opponents
Gabon will not be an easy assignment, even with doubts surrounding star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is recovering from a thigh injury and remains questionable.
Head coach Thierry Dieudonné Mouyouma offered a cautious update: “He is getting better. He arrived on Monday and has started training with us.” Whether Aubameyang plays or not, Gabon are well positioned to exploit any instability on the opposing bench.
