AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals Confirmed: Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon, and More Advance
The first knockout stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 ended on Tuesday night, with the Round of 16 complete and the quarter-final teams confirmed. Africa’s biggest football tournament now moves into its most exciting and decisive phase.
The Round of 16 showcased the drama and unpredictability of AFCON football, with tight matches and standout performances deciding who remains in contention for the 2025 title. Eight teams now advance to the AFCON 2025 quarter-finals, each aiming for continental glory.
Senegal were the first to secure a spot, defeating Sudan and extending their unbeaten streak in the tournament, proving why they are considered one of Africa’s strongest sides. Mali followed, advancing past Tunisia on penalties despite playing much of the game with ten men, demonstrating resilience and tactical discipline.
Hosts Morocco claimed a narrow 1–0 victory over Tanzania in Rabat, with Brahim Díaz scoring the decisive goal. The win kept Morocco’s hopes alive for their first AFCON title in 50 years and reinforced their reputation as a tournament favorite.
Cameroon, five-time African champions, advanced with a dramatic 2–1 win over South Africa. The Indomitable Lions will face Morocco in a high-stakes quarter-final, promising intensity, historic rivalry, and continental football excitement.
Elsewhere, Egypt defeated Benin 3–1 after extra time, with Mohamed Salah scoring the winning goal in the final seconds. Nigeria secured a dominant 4–0 victory over Mozambique, highlighted by a brace from Victor Osimhen. Algeria edged DR Congo 1–0 in extra time, thanks to a stunning goal from Adil Boulbina. Finally, defending champions Côte d’Ivoire defeated Burkina Faso 3–0 to round out the last eight.
The AFCON 2025 quarter-finals are scheduled for Friday, 9 January, and Saturday, 10 January, leading to the grand final on 18 January at Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
