Football finals are often bittersweet, and the TotalEnergies AFCON 2023 was no exception. While we witnessed an entire country celebrating the epic comeback of Ivory Coast, who clinched the title of the African Cup of Nations, we also saw the Super Eagles leaving empty-handed.
Nigeria not only lost the final against the Elephants, but this defeat marked their fifth elimination in the top competition of African national teams, equaling Ghana's record as one of the tournament's top runners-up.
This time luck was not on Nigeria's side, as it was in 2013 against Burkina Faso. Victor Osimhen's 'Super Eagles' will seek redemption in the next edition of the African Cup of Nations."
