Liberia will host Mali on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group K in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Monrovia, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT. How Liberia Arrive
Liberia opened its qualifying campaign with a 3-1 away defeat against Rwanda at the Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.
The Amavubi made a fast start. Abeddy Biramahire opened the scoring after only two minutes before Leroy-Jacques Mickels doubled the advantage in the 33rd.
Sylvanus Nimely pulled one back for the Lone Star in the 38th minute and briefly brought his team back into the contest. However, Joy-Lance Mickels converted a penalty in the 44th minute to restore Rwanda's two-goal lead before halftime.
There were no further goals after the break, leaving Liberia without a point ahead of its first home match of the group stage.
How Mali Arrive
Mali made a winning start by defeating Cape Verde 3-1 at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako.
The Eagles took an early lead through Martial Tia in the fifth minute, but the Blue Sharks responded quickly as Sidny Lopes Cabral equalized five minutes later.
Mali regained control before halftime. Nene Dorgeles restored the lead in the 39th minute and struck again in the 51st to complete his brace and secure all three points.
The result gave Mali an ideal start, and the Eagles will now play their first away fixture of the campaign with an opportunity to begin the qualifiers with consecutive victories.
Liberia Looks to Respond in a Competitive Group K
After Matchday 1, Mali and Rwanda have three points, while Liberia and Cape Verde remain without a point.
Group K does not contain any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Liberia, collecting points at home would be important to avoid beginning the campaign with consecutive defeats. Mali, meanwhile, will look to maintain its perfect start and strengthen its position in the race for one of the group's two qualifying places.
