Gabon will look to recover from its opening defeat against Morocco, while Niger enters Matchday 2 of Group A with three points after defeating Lesotho.
Gabon will host Niger on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group A in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Stade de la R茅novation in Franceville, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT. How Gabon Arrive
Gabon opened its qualifying campaign with a 2-0 away defeat against Morocco at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah in Rabat.
The Atlas Lions took the lead in the 36th minute through Noussair Mazraoui. The Panthers remained within one goal for much of the match but were unable to find an equalizer.
Soufiane Rahimi then added Morocco's second goal in the 84th minute to secure the victory.
The defeat left Gabon without a point after Matchday 1 and makes its first home fixture an important opportunity to respond quickly in the group.
How Niger Arrive
Niger, meanwhile, made a winning start to qualifying with a 2-1 victory over Lesotho.
The Mena built their advantage during the first half. Daniel Sosah opened the scoring in the 38th minute after being set up by Ousseni Badamassi, before Oumar Sako doubled the lead in the 45th.
Lesotho pulled one back in the 85th minute when Sera Motebang converted from the penalty spot, but Niger protected its advantage through the closing stages to secure all three points.
The result left Niger level with Morocco on three points at the top of Group A.
Gabon Looks for Its First Points in Group A
After Matchday 1, Morocco and Niger have three points, while Gabon and Lesotho remain without a point.
Group A does not contain any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Gabon, collecting points in Franceville will be important to avoid opening the campaign with consecutive defeats. Niger, meanwhile, has the opportunity to finish the first international window with six points.
