Benin will face Mauritania on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group F in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM ET / 12:00 PM PT. How Benin Arrive
Benin opened its qualifying campaign with a 1-1 away draw against Burkina Faso at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou.
The Stallions took the lead in the 20th minute when Lassina Traoré converted from the penalty spot. The Cheetahs stayed in the match and eventually found their equalizer during the second half.
Tosin Aiyegun converted another penalty in the 68th minute to make it 1-1 and secure one point for Benin from its opening qualifier.
Gernot Rohr’s side now plays its second qualifying fixture as the designated home team, although the game will take place in Ivory Coast. A victory would allow the Cheetahs to finish the opening international window with four points.
How Mauritania Arrive
Mauritania made an ideal start by defeating the Central African Republic 3-1 at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, Morocco.
Aboubakary Koïta opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute. The Fauves responded shortly after halftime, with Goduine Koyalipou equalizing in the 48th.
The Mourabitounes decided the game during the closing stages. Dawda Camara restored their advantage in the 69th minute before Mamadou Diallo scored in the 89th to complete the 3-1 victory.
That result gave Mauritania three points before its first away fixture of the group stage.
Mauritania Enters Matchday 2 at the Top of Group F
Before the second round begins, Mauritania sits first in Group F with three points. Benin and Burkina Faso each collected one point from their draw in Ouagadougou, while the Central African Republic opened without a point.
The section does not contain any of the three automatically qualified AFCON 2027 co-hosts, meaning the teams finishing first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the finals in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
For Benin, beating the early group leader would move the Cheetahs above Mauritania in the standings. The Mourabitounes, meanwhile, have the opportunity to open the qualifiers with consecutive victories.
