Ethiopia will face Senegal on Tuesday, September 29, on Matchday 2 of Group J in the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be played at the Bahir Dar National Stadium in Bahir Dar, with kickoff scheduled for 9:00 AM ET / 6:00 AM PT. How Ethiopia Enter the Match

Ethiopia opened their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat against Sudan on Matchday 1.

The match remained scoreless for almost the entire contest. The Ethiopian side managed to withstand its opponent's pressure until the closing stages, but Mohamed Eisa scored in the 86th minute to give Sudan all three points.

The result left Ethiopia at the bottom of Group J after the opening round, although their defensive performance kept them in the game until the final minutes. They now face an even greater challenge against one of the continent's leading national teams.

How Senegal Enter the Match

Senegal were also unable to begin the qualifiers with a victory. The Lions of Teranga drew 1-1 against Mozambique in Patrick Vieira's first official match as head coach of the national team.

Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring in the 32nd minute to put Senegal ahead, but Mozambique responded before halftime. Geny Catamo scored the equalizer during first-half stoppage time to make it 1-1.

Neither team managed to score again, leaving Senegal with one point from their opening match. They will now look for their first victory of the qualifying campaign away from home.

Senegal Look to Close the Gap at the Top of Group J

After Matchday 1, Sudan lead Group J with three points. Senegal and Mozambique have one point each, while Ethiopia are yet to get off the mark.

The group does not include any of the three AFCON 2027 host nations, meaning the teams that finish first and second after six matchdays will qualify directly for the tournament in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

For Ethiopia, earning points against one of Africa's leading teams would provide an immediate response after their opening defeat. Senegal, meanwhile, need to turn their opening draw into a victory to avoid losing ground in a group where Sudan have already taken an early lead.
