Coello and Tapia Triumph in Premier Padel Italy Major, Clinching First Title as a Pair
In a thrilling display of Padel prowess, Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia seized their first-ever Premier Padel circuit title, emerging victorious over the formidable pair of Paquito Navarro and Federico Chingotto. The intense match held the spectators at the packed Foro Itálico spellbound.
The men's final of the Premier Padel Italy Major showcased the crème de la crème of the tournament. Navarro and Chingotto, undefeated so far, entered the match high on confidence, not having lost a single set in the tournament. However, they were up against the season's most consistent duo, Tapia and Coello, who were striving for their maiden Premier Padel title.
The opening of the match was marked by a series of evenly matched rallies, with neither team managing to wrest control. As the Foro Itálico audience hung onto every point, the games unfolded without either pair asserting dominance. However, in a dramatic turn of events, just when it appeared that the first set was destined for a tie-break, Tapia and Coello seized a decisive break, taking the set 7-5.
The second set opened with Navarro and Chingotto on the front foot. Led by a spirited performance by Paquito, the pair seemed primed for a comeback, swiftly securing a break to go ahead.
However, the relentless Tapia and Coello duo had other plans. In the eighth game, they mounted an impressive comeback, leveling the score and pushing the match to a nail-biting tie-break. Once there, Tapia and Coello made their move, decisively claiming the tie-break and the set.
The match ended 7-5, 7-6 in favor of Coello and Tapia, marking their first Premier Padel title triumph as a team, a significant milestone in their careers.
The high-octane Premier Padel action is set to continue as the circuit travels next week to Madrid for the first P1 category tournament of the season, and you can catch it live and free on beIN SPORTS XTRA.
