Mascherano Calls Morocco vs Argentina Game "Biggest Circus"
Javier Mascherano launches harsh criticism after the controversy that occurred in the match between Morocco and Argentina at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The controversy from the Olympic match between Morocco and Argentina continues to make waves worldwide, and now it's Argentina's coach, Javier Mascherano, who is speaking out. He’s still in shock about what happened at such a major event as the Olympics.
Mascherano called the incident “the biggest circus” of his life, saying that what occurred was unprecedented for a global organization and an event as important as the Olympics.
He also gave more insight into his perspective and what happened in Paris. “Yesterday we were robbed. Almada had his belongings stolen. They ask for credentials for everything, but then these things happen. They invaded the field seven times and threw firecrackers at us. They told us the game was 2-2. Even Morocco didn’t want to keep playing,” the Argentine coach said.
Mascherano expressed his frustration, saying he doesn’t like these things happening, especially to his team. “We don’t like these things happening. We’re not asking for favors, but we also don’t want to be treated like fools, which is exactly what happened today,” he stated.
Argentina will face Iraq in their next match in the men’s football tournament at the Olympics on Saturday, July 27, at Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Étienne.
