Africa Secures a Medal in Soccer at the Paris 2024 Olympics
The African continent secured a medal in Olympic soccer after Morocco eliminated the United States 4-0 in the quarterfinals and Egypt did the same by defeating Paraguay in a penalty shootout. Now, they’ll face host nation France and powerhouse Spain.
Morocco put on a soccer masterclass by thrashing the United States 4-0, with a stellar performance from Achraf Hakimi, who led the team to secure a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic semifinals to face the Spanish team.
Meanwhile, Egypt fought till the end and managed to beat Paraguay in a nail-biting penalty shootout, making them semifinalists. Now, they’ll have to face the formidable host nation, France.
However, the African continent has already secured at least one medal. With the possibility of winning gold and silver if either team makes it to the final, bronze is still on the table if they don’t. If Egypt and Morocco are eliminated in the semifinals, they’ll face each other in a single match to determine the third place, with the winner taking home the bronze medal.
