The American team amassed 171.296 points, outshining their competitors. Italy, with 165.494 points, clinched their first medal since the silver in Amsterdam 1928, while Brazil, led by Rebeca Andrade, achieved its first-ever podium finish in this event with 164.497 points—making it the first podium for any South American country in this discipline.
The defending champions, Russia, did not compete in Paris due to sanctions. The U.S. team also won gold at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics.
Simone Biles now adds her eighth Olympic medal to her collection, including her fifth gold. She previously won four gold medals at the Rio 2016 Games: team gold, all-around gold, vault gold, and floor exercise gold.
