Noah Lyles clinched the gold medal in the 100-meter dash, marking the first gold for the United States in this event since 2004.
The finish was incredibly close, with the American, achieving his personal best (9.79), narrowly defeating his Jamaican rival Kishane Thompson by just five thousandths of a second, earning the silver medal.
After a few dramatic seconds of verification to determine the winner, the Stade de France remained silent until it was finally confirmed that Lyles had taken first place. He immediately celebrated with his family.
Rounding out the podium was fellow American Fred Kerley, who secured the third position with a time of 9.81. The world will now be watching Lyles as he competes in the 200-meter dash.
