Former Formula 1 Champion Nico Rosberg Blasts Carlos Sainz and Calls for Penalty After Crash With Oliver Bearman
Nico Rosberg harshly criticized Carlos Sainz after his incident with Oliver Bearman at Monza. The German called for sanctions against the Spaniard and questioned his performance at Williams.
Controversy at Monza: Rosberg accuses Sainz of pushing the limits
The 2025 Italian Grand Prix not only provided excitement on the track, but also controversy off it. Carlos Sainz and Oliver Bearman were involved in an incident at the second chicane at Monza that ended with both drivers off the track and losing positions. To the surprise of many, the penalty was given to Bearman and not Sainz.
Former world champion Nico Rosberg did not hold back and exploded on Sky F1's broadcast:
“Carlos Sainz needs to be penalized. Bearman had half a car in front of him, it wasn't just the wing. Why didn't he leave space? It was an avoidable move!”
His comment sparked debate on social media, with opinions divided between those who blame the Williams driver and those who believe it was simply a racing incident.
Analysis: Sainz in a crisis of confidence
The most worrying thing is that this maneuver is not an isolated incident. Sainz has gone five consecutive Grand Prix races without scoring any points, leaving him in 18th place in the championship with just 16 points. Meanwhile, his teammate Alex Albon shone once again, crossing the finish line in seventh place and consolidating his position as seventh in the drivers' championship with 70 points.
Rosberg criticized not only the maneuver, but also Sainz's overall performance in his debut season with Williams.
Sainz's version: “I left space”
Carlos Sainz, for his part, defended his actions and justified Bearman's penalty:
"I think I left a car's worth of space on the inside, which is why he was penalized. I braked late on the outside; I couldn't brake any later. This is Monza, one of us had to lift off. I was ahead at the apex, he decided not to lift."
For the Spaniard, the incident was a typical Monza situation, where drivers tend to take maximum risks in the chicanes, but he doesn't feel his action deserved punishment.
Williams: pressure mounting
With Alex Albon setting the benchmark and scoring points regularly, the pressure on Sainz is mounting. His adaptation to the team has not been easy, and every incident reignites criticism of his aggressive style. If he wants to make up ground in the championship and prove that his signing for Williams was the right move, he needs results soon.
Monza was a missed opportunity, and if he doesn't find consistency, his season could go down in history as one of the most frustrating of his career.
