Monaco Changes Everything: Norris Wins and Joins the Fight for the Formula 1 Title as Colapinto Disappoints
Lando Norris secures a crucial win in Monte Carlo and intensifies the race for the championship; Franco Colapinto fails to deliver.
Lando Norris (McLaren) claimed victory this Sunday at the Monaco Grand Prix, the eighth round of the Formula 1 World Championship, held on the iconic street circuit of Monte Carlo. The British driver, who started from pole position, earned his sixth career win in F1, his second of the season, and his first triumph at the legendary venue on the French Riviera.
Carlos Sainz (Williams) finished tenth, Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) was forced to retire, and Franco Colapinto (Alpine) crossed the line in 13th place, far from the points.
Norris, 25, took the win ahead of hometown favorite Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri, who continues to lead the standings.
McLaren Takes Control of the Standings
With this result, Piastri now holds 161 points, just three ahead of Norris, and 25 more than four-time world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull), who finished fourth in Monaco.
Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) came fifth, followed by French rookie Isack Hadjar (RB) in sixth.
Esteban Ocon (Haas) secured seventh, and Liam Lawson finished eighth, highlighting a strong performance for RB, formerly known as Alpha Tauri.
Colapinto Struggles, Sainz Barely Scores
Franco Colapinto once again missed a chance to shine, ending 13th and failing to score points for Alpine. Despite high expectations, the Argentine driver continues to face challenges in adapting to the top tier of motorsport.
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz settled for tenth place—earning a single point—right behind his teammate Alex Albon. The result was far from ideal for Williams, especially after Sainz had previously enjoyed strong results in Monaco.
Fernando Alonso was forced to retire and remains off pace this season with Aston Martin.
The next stop on the calendar is the Spanish Grand Prix, scheduled for next weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in Montmeló. With the top three drivers separated by a narrow margin, the championship fight is shaping up to be one of the most thrilling in recent years.
