Kongklai Returns, Khunponnoi Meets Thom At ONE Friday Fights 162 On July 17
A southpaw chasing redemption, a family legacy on the line, and a Scot who learned Muay Thai during the COVID-19 pandemic and now fights in its cathedral – ONE Friday Fights 162 arrives this Friday, July 17, with a card full of stories worth watching.
A Powerhouse With Something To Prove
Kongklai Sor Sommai has one of the more remarkable origin stories on the entire ONE Friday Fights roster – he had 10 losses to start his career, followed by an 18-bout winning streak that led to him receiving the 2020 Sports Authority of Thailand Fighter of the Year award.
The 27-year-old southpaw is as dangerous as anyone in the bantamweight division when he is locked in, and this Friday, he returns to Lumpinee Stadium looking to put a tough loss to Julio Lobo behind him and remind fans why his left hand demands respect.

Standing across from him is Adam "El Capitano" Benwarwar, a 23-year-old who does not come to survive. The Moroccan made his presence felt with a first-round knockout at ONE Friday Fights 153, and he brings a powerful right and left hook that keeps opponents honest. He does not care about Kongklai's record. He is coming for his own.
A Family Legacy And A Dangerous Scot
The co-main event brings two fighters with very different stories and genuine fireworks waiting to happen.
Khunponnoi Sor Sommai is a 33-year-old veteran with 127 professional wins and the kind of all-action pressure style that runs in the family – his older brother, four-time Muay Thai World Champion Seksan Or Kwanmuang, is one of the most beloved fighters in ONE Championship history. Khunponnoi, however, is writing his own chapter, and most recently, he earned a bonus for his knockout performance at ONE Friday Fights 153, and arrives on Friday dangerous and hungry.

His opponent, Scotland's Gregor Thom, has one of the best underdog stories on the entire roster. The 26-year-old from Aberdeen picked up Muay Thai during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, relocated to Thailand, and has been quietly building a resume that demands attention. His low kicks have derailed fighters who had no business losing to him, and his elbows have a habit of arriving at the worst possible moment for whoever is on the receiving end. Do not let the origin story fool you. Thom is a problem.
