Pacquiao Challenges Mayweather Ahead of Las Vegas Rematch
The Filipino star heats up the build-up to Mayweather-Pacquiao 2 and casts doubt on ‘Money’ being the greatest of all time.
The boxing world is once again looking to the past to reignite a rivalry that defined an era. Manny Pacquiao has been the first to stir the pot ahead of his rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr., scheduled for September 19 at the iconic Sphere at The Venetian Resort. The event will receive a major promotional push from Netflix, aiming to turn the fight into a global spectacle.
At a time when many claim boxing is not at its peak, nostalgia becomes a powerful selling point. Their first bout generated around $400 million after years of negotiations and massive anticipation. While this second chapter may not reach those historic numbers, interest remains high.
Pacquiao did not hold back. “I want Floyd to live with the only loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him,” the Filipino star said, expressing confidence that he can execute a better strategy this time. He also directly questioned Mayweather’s historical standing: “How can he claim to be the greatest of all time? He’s not the only fighter in history to retire undefeated.”
At 47, ‘Pac-Man’ insists he still has the motivation and tools to prove himself inside the ring. Mayweather, who recently turned 49, is also preparing for action and will return first in an exhibition bout against Mike Tyson in April in Congo.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, is set to face Ruslan Provodnikov in his own exhibition in Las Vegas. The show has already begun outside the ring, and September promises another lucrative chapter in one of boxing’s most profitable rivalries.
