Mario Barrios Forgets Manny Pacquiao and Shares Thoughts on the Super Fight Between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford
Mario Barrios believes the highly anticipated showdown between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford is so evenly matched that each fight could have a different outcome.
The long-awaited clash between Canelo Álvarez and Terence Crawford continues to divide opinions across the boxing world. On September 13, the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will host one of the year’s biggest events, where the undisputed super middleweight champion will defend his titles against the undefeated American star.
A Fight Too Close to Call
WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios admitted to The Ring that he cannot choose a favorite between the two, underlining the greatness of both fighters.
“I’m a big fan of Canelo, but Crawford is pound-for-pound for a reason. His skill set is unique. This is the type of fight they could do 50 times, and every time it could go a different way,” Barrios said.
The Mexican fighter’s perspective mirrors that of much of the industry, which sees this clash as a battle of styles where experience, power, and intelligence will play a decisive role. “Styles make fights, and when you factor in the weight difference, it becomes even tougher. That’s why I respect both so much and can’t pick one over the other,” he added.
Historic Stakes in Las Vegas
Oddsmakers also see no clear dominance. According to DraftKings, Álvarez enters as the betting favorite at -185, while Crawford is listed at +145, suggesting a close battle that could extend past 10 rounds.
A victory for Crawford would secure his place in history as the undisputed champion in three different divisions, in addition to holding belts in five weight classes overall. For Álvarez, who boasts an 11-fight unbeaten streak at super middleweight, the fight is another chance to solidify his status as one of boxing’s greatest modern champions.
