Floyd Mayweather Jr. In Legal Trouble: Accused of $4 Million Fraud on Elon Musk’s Behalf
Floyd Mayweather faces a $4 million lawsuit in Miami. He is accused of fraud for promising direct access to Elon Musk in exchange for money and luxury timepieces.
The undefeated fighter now battles in court
Floyd Mayweather Jr., the man who never tasted defeat in the ring, now faces a battle outside the ring that could tarnish his impeccable legacy. In Miami, the former pound-for-pound champion has been sued by businessman and digital artist Jayson Winer, who claims to have been the victim of a million-dollar fraud related to the promise of access to none other than Elon Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX tycoon.
A story with hints of a movie script
According to court documents, Mayweather and his real estate partner, Jona Rechnitz, convinced Winer that they could facilitate direct contact with Musk through FaceTime calls, messages, and digital meetings. To this end, Winer handed over $4 million in cash and luxury watches valued at more than $160,000. A man who introduced himself as part of Mayweather's security team even came to his residence in person to collect the money and luxury watches.
The problem: no calls with Musk ever materialized. Neither video calls, nor messages, nor the alleged closeness to the billionaire turned out to be real.
The controversial friendship with Elon Musk
The background to the case is even more curious. Mayweather, in the past, publicly boasted about his relationship with Musk, claiming to have helped him train for that cage fight against Mark Zuckerberg that never happened. The boxer referred to him as “my man,” which reinforced the credibility of his story to Winer.
However, according to the lawsuit, Musk was never aware of these promises nor did he participate in the agreements. The use of his name was simply bait in a fraudulent strategy.

Partners with a shady past
The name Jona Rechnitz doesn't help Mayweather's defense either. With a past marked by allegations of corruption and fraud in New York, Rechnitz has been in the crosshairs of the law on multiple occasions. His association with the former boxer, through Vada Properties, adds weight to the accusation that it was all part of a deceptive operation.
A parallel ring: Mayweather vs. Tyson
While facing this legal process, Mayweather is also preparing for another media battle: his exhibition fight against Mike Tyson in 2026. The bout between two boxing legends has already generated equal parts criticism and enthusiasm. For many, it represents more of a spectacle than a real confrontation. For others, it is a stroke of nostalgia.
The truth is that, between the spotlight of the show and the shadows of the courts, Mayweather is at the center of the storm. The question is whether, outside the ring, he will also manage to emerge undefeated.
