Manny Pacquiao Issues Strong Warning to Floyd Mayweather Jr.
The most anticipated boxing rematch is on shaky ground again. Manny Pacquiao issues a direct warning to Floyd Mayweather Jr.: if he backs out, there will be legal, financial… and media consequences.
Pacquiao breaks silence and targets Mayweather directly
History seems to be repeating itself, but this time Manny Pacquiao is not staying quiet. Just when everything pointed to the long-awaited rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally becoming reality, new doubts have reignited the controversy.
According to statements collected by BoxingScene, the Filipino made it clear that there is a formal agreement in place for a professional fight, not an exhibition as the American has recently suggested. Not only that, but he also claimed that his rival has already received financial advances tied to the event.
“He knows exactly what he signed,” Pacquiao stated, hinting that the conflict is no longer about sport, but about contracts. Tension is rising, and the situation is beginning to resemble the long and frustrating negotiations leading up to their 2015 bout.
“He’ll have a lot of problems”: the Pacquiao's warning
Pacquiao went even further, delivering a direct warning that is already making waves across the boxing world.
“If he cancels, he’ll have a lot of problems,” he said firmly.
This is no small statement. According to Pacquiao’s camp, the agreement involves major players like Netflix, promoters, and sponsors, turning any potential withdrawal into a large-scale legal and financial issue.
Far from sounding like a simple media remark, Pacquiao’s tone reflects a calculated stance. There are no insults, but the message is clear: honor the deal or face the consequences.
The past still lingers. Their first fight took years to materialize due to disagreements, broken promises, and constant changes. This time, Pacquiao is not willing to relive that chapter.
A more cautious… and more dangerous Pacquiao
If anything has changed, it’s Pacquiao’s approach outside the ring.
The Filipino learned from past experiences and made one key decision:
“Make him sign first. Then I’ll sign,” he reportedly told his team.
This move reflects not only distrust but also strategic awareness. Even so, despite signed contracts, uncertainty returned after Mayweather publicly questioned the nature of the fight.
From a sporting perspective, things are also different. Pacquiao, now 47 (62-8-3, 39 KOs), claims to be in top physical condition, unlike in 2015 when he fought with a shoulder injury.
And it raises a key question:
Is Mayweather protecting his undefeated 50-0 record?

Plan B activated: Pacquiao doesn’t depend on Mayweather
Despite the growing tension, Pacquiao remains calm — and for good reason.
The Filipino made it clear that he is not dependent on this fight.
“We have many options. Plan B, Plan C… the date is still there,” he assured.
Among the potential alternatives mentioned are Rolando “Rolly” Romero and Conor Benn, although nothing has been officially confirmed.
This completely changes the narrative. For the first time, Pacquiao is not trapped in endless negotiations. If Mayweather backs out, the event could still move forward with another opponent.
