Fight Between Mayweather Jr. and Pacquiao at Risk
The highly anticipated fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao, scheduled for September 19 in Las Vegas, is in serious jeopardy. Contractual issues have put the bout in a very delicate situation.
Contract Issues and Conflicting Statements
Event organizers claim that “Money” has violated previously signed agreements. Among these is his public statement that the fight would be an exhibition rather than an official bout, which contradicts the terms of the contract.
Jas Mathur, CEO of Pacquiao Promotions, was clear: the fight is registered as a professional match, not an exhibition. He also noted that Mayweather received several advance payments and signed the documents fully aware of the agreed clauses.
Meanwhile, the Nevada Athletic Commission also recognizes the fight as an official bout, which has only increased tensions. The statements of “The Best Ever” have not been well received in Pacquiao’s camp, where contract violations are openly discussed.

Pacquiao Camp’s Stance
Inside Pacquiao’s circle, including the boxer himself known as “Pacman”, there is frustration and disagreement. There is no intention to turn the fight into an exhibition. Pacquiao returned to the ring in 2025 against Mario Barrios, in a match that ended in a draw but left good impressions.
This competitive comeback has sparked speculation: Pacquiao’s team believes this may be the reason Mayweather is trying to change the terms of the fight. The American has not fought professionally since 2017, when he defeated Conor McGregor, and has since only participated in exhibitions, such as those against Logan Paul and John Gotti III.
Pacquiao’s team is firm: they demand a written confirmation from Mayweather ensuring that the agreed conditions are respected, guaranteeing a legitimate fight.
Currently, there is an ultimatum. Mayweather must send an official confirmation in the coming days; otherwise, the fight could be canceled permanently. Although privately, the American has claimed that “everything is fine,” the reality appears different, keeping Pacquiao’s team on high alert.
It’s worth remembering that they previously fought in 2015, also in Las Vegas, in a match Mayweather won by unanimous decision. For Pacquiao, this rematch holds special significance: it’s a chance to close an unfinished chapter in his career.
For now, uncertainty dominates the scene.
Will the fight happen on September 19?
