Floyd Mayweather Jr. Knew About Bill Belichick’s Failure and Cashed in To Grow His Fortune
Neither retired from the ring nor content with an estimated fortune of more than $1.2 billion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. misses no chance to increase his wealth. The undefeated former champion once again showed that beyond boxing, sports betting is another field where he knows exactly how to play his cards.
Belichick’s defeat, a goldmine for Mayweather
On September 1, the legendary fighter placed a bet that the TCU Horned Frogs would lead the North Carolina Tar Heels at halftime in their clash at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill. With odds of -150, he risked $23,000 at the Circa Resort & Casino in Las Vegas and pocketed more than $43,000 before the break even ended.
The prediction played out flawlessly. UNC, under Bill Belichick in his debut as a college head coach, was outclassed from the start. The halftime score showed TCU up 17-7, with a massive edge in total yards (322 to just 103). The collapse continued through the second half, ending in a humiliating 48-14 defeat that turned the day into a disaster for the Tar Heels.
Belichick disappoints, Dykes celebrates, and Mayweather smiles
Belichick’s debut on the college sidelines came with huge expectations after his six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots. Instead of a celebration, it became a nightmare. UNC’s offense managed only 172 passing yards and 50 rushing yards, compared to TCU’s 542 total yards in a near-perfect performance.
For Sonny Dykes, head coach of the Horned Frogs, motivation was key: “There was a lot of talk about what Belichick’s debut meant and very little about us. The players took it personally and went out there to prove a point,” he told ESPN. The result was a crushing 41 unanswered points that destroyed any local hope.
Mayweather, always in the spotlight
True to form, Mayweather shared proof of his winning bet on social media with a cheeky caption: “Even on Labor Day, I’m still working.” Once again, the retired boxer turned a sporting event into an opportunity to fatten his fortune.
While Belichick faces a shaky start to his NCAA journey, Mayweather Jr. keeps building his financial empire with moves that prove that inside or outside the ring, he always finds a way to win.
