What Injury Does Cooper Flagg Have That Is Keeping Him Out of the NBA All-Star Game?
Cooper Flagg to Miss All-Star: Mavericks Rookie Star Suffers Foot Injury
The Dallas Mavericks announced Wednesday that rookie Cooper Flagg suffered a mid-foot sprain in his left foot, an injury that will sideline him for the NBA All-Star Weekend, where he was set to participate in the Rising Stars tournament.
Flagg underwent an MRI that confirmed the injury, which occurred during the Mavericks’ game in Phoenix, where the Suns defeated Dallas 120-111. Despite the issue, Flagg logged more than 35 minutes on the court and scored 27 points, highlighting his importance to the team.
The player, selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft, will also miss Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, costing him what would have been his first All-Star appearance.
The young standout had been named to Team Melo, captained by Carmelo Anthony, alongside players such as Stephon Castle, Dylan Harper, and Reed Sheppard.
For this year’s event, the NBA organized a mini-tournament called Rising Stars, featuring four teams made up of first- and second-year players, as well as G League talent.
In his first season, Cooper Flagg has quickly emerged as a leader for the Mavericks, averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game, making him the leading favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year award.
