Rivals Usain Bolt and Justin Gatlin are on course for another showdown at the Bird's Nest Stadium after both coasted through their 200-metre heats on Tuesday.
Bolt dramatically beat Gatlin by one hundredth of a second in Sunday's World Championships 100m final, and the pair look set to do battle again in Friday's 200m showpiece.
Jamaican Bolt, who is seeking a third World Championships sprint double, eased to victory in his heat with a time 20.28secs.
Controversial American Gatlin, who has twice been banned for doping, followed that up by posting a time of 20.19.
