Pujols Reaches 3,000 Hits
Angels' Pujols becomes 32nd player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits
Albert Pujols became the 32nd player in history to reach 3,000 MLB hits on Friday against the Seattle Mariners.
He is the sixth international player to reach the milestone and is the first player to collect his 3,000th MLB hit since Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre on July 30 last season.
Before Beltre, Mariners outfielder Ichiro Suzuki tripled for his 3,000th MLB hit on August 7, 2016 and Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez achieved the milestone June 19, 2015.
A three-time MVP and 10-time All-Star, Pujols, 38, recorded his first 2,073 hits over 11 seasons with the Cardinals before signing a 10-year, $240million contract with the Angels prior to the 2012 season.
Pujols lined a single to right field in the fifth inning for the Los Angeles Angels to become just the second-ever Dominican native with 3,000 hits.
With Pujols' 3,000th hit he also joined Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Rodriguez as the only players in MLB history with 3,000 hits and 600 home runs.
Miguel Cabrera is on pace to become the 33rd player in MLB history to join the 3,000-hit club next season or the beginning of 2020, adding to his impressive Hall of Fame resume.
