Doctor, No! Karim Benzema and CR-7 Go Rogue at Real Madrid
Madrid’s dynamic duo hunt for magic cures, Luis Enrique denies incentive skullduggery and Wenger ensures Emirates uproar. Gallons of sporting milk over your morning sugar rush.
1) Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema seek own solutions in hunt for Champions League cure
Fretting over injuries and whether players are going to be back in time for the big game is the norm for football fans.
That’s why even leading medical expert, Ronaldo’s Mom, makes headlines when claiming soothingly that her son is at 80% and should make next week’s Champions League clash with Manchester City. Despite this precise prediction, both Ronaldo and Karim Benzema are major doubts for the second leg clash in the Santiago Bernabeu with leg injuries, and Zinedine Zidane, speaking on Friday morning, was unable to confirm if the pair would be ready in time.
But the most curious part of what is a fairly routine occurrence at the end of a long season is that both players are seeking treatment outside of the club. Benzema even posted a photo of himself with a physiotherapist who left Real Madrid last summer after a backroom restructure.
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly went to get stem cell treatment from a private clinic in the Spanish capital, rather than rely on Madrid’s own medical team, a team that the players have been a little suspicious of throughout the season if the rumbles are to be believed. All that Zidane could say about both players going all rogue and Jason Bourne in their fitness battle is that “it’s agreed with the club.”
Either way, Coach Zizou has confirmed that the pair will definitely miss Saturday’s still crucial clash with Real Sociedad that you can catch live on beIN SPORTS from 9.30PM ET. And catch Karina Kvasniova on the XTRA tonight with some background on all this medical mystery.
2) Luis Enrique believes in wholesome integrity of La Liga ahead of Betis clash
Barcelona are taking on Betis down in the city of Seville straight after the Real Madrid game, and on paper it is a fairly straight forward affair against a team with nothing to play for. Unless, the team is being given ‘incentives’ by other interested parties to beat Barcelona, a longstanding but still secretive occurrence in La Liga, but one whose days are numbered due to more vigilance from Spain’s football authorities.
Luis Enrique certainly doesn’t believe it takes place anyway. Or does he? Tough to work out sometimes with the Barcelona boss. "I don't believe in that, but I'm a happy-going guy and I have my head in the clouds," said Enrique at Friday’s press conference. Catch Betis v Barcelona live on beIN SPORTS with coverage beginning from 2PM ET
The third part of the title-chasing trio are also in action on Saturday morning with Atletico still on a huge high from Wednesday’s Bayern Munich victory in the Champions League. One of the current heroes of the hour, Fernando Torres, spoke to Spanish radio and says that he is just living in the very pleasant ‘present’ and not thinking of whether his soon to end contract with Milan will be picked up by the Rojiblancos. Atletico v Rayo is on beIN SPORTS live on Saturday from midday ET.
But the action in La Liga gets going on Friday over on our sister channel beIN Español from 2.30 ET PM.
3) Hummels faces hostile homecoming as Wenger blames fans for title loss
Matters might get a little spicy in Borussia Dortmund’s home clash against Wolfsburg on Saturday. Not only could the league title be lost officially to Bayern Munich but Mats Hummels is facing the home fans just two days after announcing that he wants to switch grounds to the Allianz Arena. Be nice, is the message from Dortmund’s Chief Executive.
Wow. Another hostile atmosphere ahoy at Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger sort of saying that the club’s fans are to blame for the failure to win the EPL title this year. "We lost the championship at home against the lower teams, but we played sometimes at home in a very difficult climate,” said Wenger, completely looking for trouble.
A friendly reception probably awaits PSG, despite the team spending a part of last week partying it up in Las Vegas. But with the manager’s permission. Catch their latest league clash against Rennes on beIN SPORTS from 2.25ET PM
4) Platini fights to avoid old lady impression as George Weah makes a stand at home
FIFA NEWS! It’s been a while. No arrests today. But instead, Michel Platini begins the appeal process for his six-year-ban from football with the court of arbitration of sport. The UEFA big-wig is hoping to overturn than ban so he does not have to attend Euro 2016 matches in disguise.
Former World Player of the Year, George Weah, has announced plans to stand as a candidate for president of Liberia in 2017’s election. Weah lost in the 2005 presidential poll and is currently a senator.
5) Moto madness from Italy and New Jersey
beIN SPORTS will be clambering into its leathers once again this weekend. And this time for a legitimate reason, as it is motorbike time with two big events getting going on Friday. The SBK Superbikes are underway in Imola, Italy, with Jonny Rea once again being the man to stop. But compatriot and title rival, Chaz Davies was fastest in Friday’s session. Catch race 1 live on beIN SPORTS on Saturday from 6.55AM ET.
And the Moto America riders have assembled in New Jersey. So what better way to look ahead to the race than hear the wise words of standings leader, Roger Hayden.
