NFL Player Hospitalized After Suffering Gunshot Wound
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was rushed to a Manhattan hospital after being shot in the abdomen early Sunday morning. The player remains in critical but stable condition.
The shooting occurred overnight in Midtown Manhattan
The NFL community was shaken this Sunday after confirming that Kris Boyd, cornerback for the New York Jets, was the victim of a shooting in one of New York City’s busiest areas.
According to police reports, the incident took place during the early hours of the morning on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue, where Boyd allegedly got into an altercation with several individuals before being shot at close range.
The shooter fled the scene in an SUV, while Boyd, 29, received immediate medical assistance before being transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
“We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time,” the New York Jets said in an official statement.
Local authorities have opened an investigation to determine what happened and identify the suspect.
A career built on perseverance and resilience
Boyd entered the NFL after being selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings, where he played through the 2022 season. He later had stints with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans before signing this season with the New York Jets.
However, the cornerback has not yet made his debut with the Jets, as he has remained on the injured reserve list since Week 1.
Throughout his seven-year career, Boyd has recorded 105 tackles, two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and three passes defended — solid numbers for a player who has battled constant roster changes.
The Jets, currently struggling with a 2–8 record and coming off a 27–14 loss to the New England Patriots, will face the Baltimore Ravens in their next matchup. For now, the organization’s focus is on Boyd’s recovery.
Concern across the NFL and widespread support for Boyd
Players, coaches, and fans across the league have expressed their support for Kris Boyd, who continues to fight for his recovery while the investigation moves forward.
The NFL — which in recent years has strengthened its player safety and welfare protocols — is closely monitoring the situation.
Boyd’s future on the field remains uncertain, but for the New York Jets and the NFL community, his health and recovery are the top priority.
