More Than Football: The Most Popular Foods on Super Bowl Sunday
The Super Bowl isn’t played only on the field. Every year, millions of fans turn the big game into a true food festival, with numbers that are nothing short of astonishing.
The Super Bowl Is Also Played at the Table
This Sunday, February 8, the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks will face off at the Levi's Stadium at Santa Clara for Super Bowl LX, but outside the stadium, another equally intense contest takes place: food.
Restaurants, bars, and supermarkets prepare for one of the biggest consumption spikes of the year, on a day when the sporting spectacle is always accompanied by food in abundance.
The NFL final has become a social ritual. Families and friends gather around the television and, beyond the final score, share dishes that are now part of Super Bowl tradition.
The Stars of the Menu
Among the tons of food served, some clear favorites stand out. Guacamole leads the list, with an estimated consumption of 3,629 tons, which translates to more than 63,000 tons of avocados. Its ease of preparation and versatility make it a must-have.
Pizza is not far behind. It’s estimated that between 12 and 14 million pizzas are consumed during the Super Bowl, thanks to its convenience and the endless variety of toppings that appeal to every taste.

Wings, Chips, and American Classics
Chicken wings, especially Buffalo-style, are another cornerstone of Super Bowl Sunday. Consumption reaches nearly 74,800 tons, with spending surpassing $1.25 billion on wings alone.
Snacks also take center stage, led by potato chips, with around 14,500 tons consumed, alongside pretzels, nuts, and popcorn.
When it comes to heartier options, burgers and hot dogs keep the spirit of American football alive. Many bars create special versions inspired by the cities of the finalist teams, strengthening the bond between food and fandom.
The Super Bowl is a sporting final, but also a cultural celebration where food plays a central role. Beyond who lifts the Lombardi Trophy, millions of fans already know the plan: a great game, great company… and plenty of food.
