How much does a Super Bowl commercial cost? Prices reach up to $10 million

Super Bowl LX, which this Sunday will pit the New England Patriots against the Seattle Seahawks, not only attracts millions of viewers but also advertisers willing to pay record amounts for 30 seconds of airtime. According to NBCUniversal, the network broadcasting the game, the average cost of a commercial will be $8 million, while some special spots could reach $10 million.

Mark Marshall, NBCUniversal’s global advertising director, told Bloomberg that this figure is close to last year’s record, when FOX held the broadcast rights.

Commercials almost as anticipated as the game

The game will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, with a capacity of 68,500, home of the San Francisco 49ers since 2014. This year, commercials from the technology, pharmaceutical, and wellness sectors stand out, and nearly 40% of the advertising brands did not participate in last year’s final.

Besides the game and the halftime show — which will feature Bad Bunny — the commercials are one of the biggest attractions of the Super Bowl, the most-watched television event in the United States. Last year’s edition recorded a record 128 million viewers.

Brands and surprises

Companies like Pepsi, Pringles, and Bud Light have already released teasers or full commercials on social media, featuring celebrity appearances and direct references to competing brands. Those watching via Peacock, NBC’s streaming platform, may see different ads than on traditional TV.

A historic rivalry

The Patriots and Seahawks will revisit the Super Bowl XLIX in Santa Clara (2015), where New England won 28-24 thanks to a historic interception by Malcom Butler just one yard from the end zone — a moment that remains etched in NFL history.
