The Austrian fought all the way to the end, and after losing a first-set tie-break, rallied to a 6-7 (5-7) 6-2 7-6 (7-4) victory in two hours and 52 minutes.

Tagger got a break in the fifth game on her way to a 4-2 lead, but Krejcikova cancelled that out shortly after and then converted her second set point in the tie-break to take the first set.

But Tagger matched her again at the start of the second set and remained patient before getting the all-important break, which set her up to force a decider.

The 18-year-old started the third set with a break, but Krejcikova fought back to take a 3-2 lead, holding off four break points in the fifth game.

With neither player giving any openings on serve, they went to another breaker, and Tagger reeled off the final three points to book her place in the showpiece.

She will face Daria Snigur for the trophy after the Ukrainian denied another home favourite.

Snigur came out on top 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 against Tereza Valentova in one hour and 52 minutes to reach her first WTA singles final.

Meanwhile, at the Hamburg Open, Anna Bondar is through to the showpiece for the second consecutive year after a marathon semi-final match.

She beat qualifier Elina Avanesyan 7-6 (7-3) 4-6 7-6 (7-2) in a three-and-a-half-hour contest.

Bondar will face Tamara Korpatsch, who had led 6-1 2-0 before her opponent Mayar Sherif had to retire through injury.
