Aasgaard wants to be 'the man' for Rangers
Thelo Aasgaard scored on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership season for Rangers, and now wants to take on more responsibility.
For the fourth consecutive season, Rangers failed to make a winning start to its Scottish Premiership campaign after it was held to a 1-1 draw by Dundee United.
Aasgaard scored the leveller for Derek McInnes side at Tannadice Park, while he also led his team-mates in shots (four), touches (76), completed passes (39) and successful dribbles (4/6).
Aasgaard represented Norway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scoring in its group stage defeat to France, and wants to use his experience at the tournament to his advantage at Rangers.
"I was just trying to take that quality from the six weeks out in America," Aasgaard said.
"I trained with some really good players day in, day out and that raises your standards, so I've tried to bring that in in pre-season and I felt like I've done that.
"I want to take some responsibility this year to be the man.
"Last season was a lot of ups and downs, and I'm just trying to find that consistency.
"If it's not a goal or assist, then it's a really strong performance, so I'm obviously happy to score. I'm just trying to show the manager that I should be in and around the team.
"Playing amongst the best players in the world with Norway, and feeling really confident, feeling good in training, obviously a good performance in the World Cup as well, did wonders for my confidence, so I tried to bring that into Rangers.
"It's great to score, but it's not the same when you can't celebrate in front of the fans. It's a bit bittersweet."
Rangers takes on Jagiellonia Bialystok in a UEFA Europa League qualifier on Friday (AEST), before facing Hibernian in its next Scottish Premiership fixture of the season.
