Rangers sign Godfrey on season-long loan
Ben Godfrey will spend another season away from Atalanta after completing a loan deal with Rangers for the 2026-27 campaign.
Rangers have announced the signing of Ben Godfrey on a season-long loan from Atalanta.
The 28-year-old will spend the 2026-27 campaign at Ibrox, while Rangers have the option to make the deal permanent next summer.
This will be Godfrey's third loan spell since joining Atalanta in 2024, following short-term deals with Ipswich Town, Sheffield United and Brondby.
Godfrey, who has never played in Scotland but has made over 100 Premier League appearances, played just five times for Atalanta after leaving Everton.
New Rangers boss Derek McInnes sees Godfrey as a key signing due to the defender's experience at the top level.
"Ben is a player who has competed at a very high level throughout his career," McInnes told the club website.
"He鈥檚 played in the Premier League, been involved with England, and brings a lot of experience with him.
"He鈥檚 a strong, athletic defender with good qualities both on and off the ball, and we believe he can add a lot to the squad.
"We鈥檙e pleased to get him in, and I鈥檓 looking forward to working with him in the season ahead."
Godfrey added: "I am buzzing, I am really happy to be here. I know the size of the club so it is a massive honour to be wearing the shirt this season, and I can鈥檛 wait to get started.
"I am looking forward to meeting the boys and hopefully helping this club achieve what it deserves, which is silverware and exciting times."
Rangers start their 2026-27 Scottish Premiership campaign on July 31 against Dundee United, while they will also take part in Europa League qualifying after finishing third in the league.
