Wirtz excited for season two with Liverpool
Florian Wirtz has expressed his excitement for his second season at Liverpool after a disappointing debut campaign.
The 23-year-old joined the Reds last season from Bayer Leverkusen for 拢100 million ($191.9 million), but failed to find any rhythm under former boss Arne Slot.
Wirtz scored seven goals and provided eight assists in 49 games across all competitions as the Reds failed to build on their Premier League triumph in 2024-2025.
However, the mood around the camp has improved since the appointment of Andoni Iraola as manager, with Wirtz also set to play in a more preferred role.
"I mean, I was always more like a number 10. But I play where the manager puts me," Wirtz said.
"We鈥檝e spoken about that as well. Let鈥檚 see what happens this season. I just can say that the training is really fun, I enjoyed every training [session] until now.
"We play a lot of games and possessions, and that鈥檚 exactly what I like. I just enjoyed it until now.
"I think we start from zero this season. Also here with this training camp, it鈥檚 a new start.
"We have a lot of things to do better this season and I鈥檓 very excited for season two."
Wirtz is yet to feature in pre-season for Liverpool after representing Germany at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Germany was knocked out in the Round of 32 by Paraguay, which led to the departure of head coach Julian Nagelsmann and the arrival of former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as his replacement.
"It鈥檚 very, very cool that he鈥檚 there now," Wirtz said of Klopp's appointment.
"I鈥檝e not spoken to him yet but a lot of people here at the club told me about him, that he is a fantastic guy.
"All of Liverpool loves him. So, I鈥檓 very excited to meet him in a few months."
